Location

Hotel Aurora Milano is at Corso Buenos Aires 18, at the start of the street, about 400 metres from the old toll gates of Porta Venezia. Named after Argentina in 1906, the avenue runs for over 1.6 kilometres to Piazzale Loreto and is one of the longest shopping streets in Europe, with over 350 shops; the red M1 metro line runs beneath it.

Getting there

From Malpensa, the Malpensa Express reaches Cadorna in about 37 minutes, and from there the M1 runs straight to Porta Venezia. The Centrale-bound Malpensa Express stops at Porta Garibaldi, where the S lines of the suburban rail link continue to Porta Venezia, about 150 metres from the hotel. Coaches from Malpensa and Orio al Serio reach Milano Centrale in roughly an hour.

Linate is just a few kilometres away: the M4 takes about 12 minutes to San Babila, then the M1 towards Sesto stops at Palestro and Porta Venezia. From Milano Centrale it is about a 13-minute walk, or take the M2 to Loreto and the M1 to Lima. If driving, note that the hotel has no parking and the area is in Area B, outside Area C.

What to see

About ten minutes' walk away are the Indro Montanelli Gardens, Milan's oldest public park, opened in 1784 and home to the Natural History Museum and the Planetarium. Just beyond, on Via Palestro, Villa Reale houses the GAM, with works by Canova, Hayez and Segantini. The surrounding streets, such as Via Malpighi, hide Liberty buildings like Casa Galimberti.

The Duomo is three stops away on the M1 or about two kilometres on foot, and the Quadrilatero della Moda fashion district is a walk down Corso Venezia. For the Fiera Milano Rho exhibition centre, the M1 goes all the way to the end of the line. Late spring and early autumn are the most pleasant months; during the Salone del Mobile and fashion weeks demand for rooms is very high.
